CALIKUSU – LOVEBIRD Turkish drama in English.

Calikusu is a television serie of Turkish origin, produced by Tims Productions under the direction of Çagan Irmak and broadcast by Kanal D. It was based on the book by Turkish writer Reşat Nuri Güntekin, published in 1922, whose title was also Çalıkuşu.

The television serie was made up of a single season of 30 episodes. It has been broadcasted in several countries, such as: Israel, Iran, Serbia, Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

PLOT – SYNOPSIS

Calikusu’s drama revolves around the story of Feride (Fahriye Evcen), a young girl who is orphaned and left in the care of her aunt, and must then go to boarding school, only visiting her aunt during the vacations.

The story is told in the form of Feride’s intimate diary in the first part.

Her personality is cheerful but naive to face the malice of life. As a child she shares several adventures with her cousin Kamran (Burak Özçivit) without imagining that she will end up falling in love with him. Kamran grows up and becomes the pride of the family to be recognized as a respected doctor.

The love story shows a wonderful stage of illusion and passion, with later wounds that cause strong disappointments, which at the time, seem unforgivable.

Each one follows his own path, Feride goes to Anatolia where she becomes a teacher to live. The two lovers meet other people and go on with their separate lives. Everything goes on maintaining in the spectator the enthusiasm to see the reconciliation of the great lovers. Finally, the faults are overcome by a feeling too strong to be forgotten. The novel is set in the 1920s, in the romanticism of the beginning of the century and the end of the Ottoman Empire.

The Actors behind the fictional characters

The lead actress, Fahriye Evcen is of Turkish-German origin and has been an actress since 2005. She was born specifically in Solingen, Germany, but moved to Istanbul to start acting. She is multilingual, speaking fluently Spanish, English, Turkish and German.

And if you don’t know it yet, her love in real life is the same as in fiction, because during the recordings of the novel, love transcended the real plane and Fahriye Evcen and Burak Özçivit subsequently married in 2017.

In that same year, the actress was considered one of the most beautiful women in the world according to Buzznet, placing her in ninth place.

As for her gallant husband, Burak Özçivit, he was a model and began his acting career in 2006. He has starred in several major productions, in addition to Çalıkuşu, for both film and television. Among these, the dramatic series Kara Sevda, winner of an Emmy award in 2017 for best foreign soap opera.
